We already know what Republicans said about John Kerry four
years ago. In a smear campaign second to none the veteran was
painted as a coward who came home from Vietnam, and never really
achieved something by himself, so he married a rich woman. His
military service was trashed, his medals questioned by former
soldiers who got paid by Texas billionaires, and who all revoked
their testimonies after the election. Where are the people who
trashed John Kerry now? Why aren't they looking into McCain's
dubious past? McCain too is a Vietnam vetran who married a rich
woman (and threw his first wife over because she was disfigured
in a car accident). Why is nobody questioning this?
We are wondering what our opponents would say if Barack Obama
was a compulsive gambler, and Michelle was a former pill-popping
drug addict, who stole from charity? We are wondering what Republicans
would say if Barack Obama owned seven multi-million dollar homes
and 13 cars? We are also wondering what they would come up with
if Barack Obama hadn't filled out his tax returns properly, hadn't
paid part of his property taxes.
What would Republicans say? Be honest, they would go totally
ballistic on Obama. They would make him out to be a dangerous
nut-case, Michelle to be a crack-whore, and Joe would probably
be portrayed as a shady mobster, but I guess it is OK to be a
gambler, a tax evader, a thief, and a drug addict as long as
you are a Republican.
Fact #1
McCain Family Values and the Anatomy
of an Adoption/ a Deception. As was pointed out on 8/20/08 by the Christian Science
Monitor, the McCain campaign was called out for lying about the purported
urging ofCindy McCain by Mother Teresa herself to adopt two children
at her orphanage back in 1991. Turns out, McCain never met or even
spoke with Mother Teresa on that trip. Source
Fact #2
McCain and the Hanoi Hilton. Overworking
the "Dancing Queen" topic. Lately,
the McCain campaign has been resorting to a stereotype replications
of one and the same echo: their bosses 5 1/2 year stay at the Hanoi
Hilton as a POW. Not matter how much boneheaded jibber-jabber the
obviously Alzheimers-stricken presidential candidate spits out every
single day, the answer is always the same: POW, POW, POW, POW...
- McCain aide Brian Rogers acknowledged that his boss had "some
investment properties and stuff," but added: "This is a
guy who lived in one house for five and a half years -- in prison." Source
- The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former
prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous." (McCain Spokeswoman
Nicole Wallace about McCain not being in a cone of silence at Saddleback)
- When Elizabeth Edwards criticized McCain's health care policy,
his aides declared that their boss knew what it was like to get inadequate
care "from another government.
- During an October debate, while knocking a Hillary Clinton plan
to help fund a museum celebrating Woodstock, McCain said he missed
the 1969 festival because he was ``tied up at the time.'' Source
- Explaining that his favorite song was "Dancing Queen" by
ABBA, McCain said his knowledge of music "stopped evolving when
his plane intercepted a surface-to-air missile." Dancing Queen,
however, was produced in 1975, eight years after McCain's plane was
shot down. Source
Enough already. We honor John McCains service as a soldier and POW,
but isn't it time for the presidential candidate to address the problems
that plague this country, instead of beating the POW theme to death?
Fact #3
McCain Doesn't Remember How many Houses He
Owns. Remember the
year 2004? Republicans would go ballistic over the five homes owned
by Sen. John F. Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, calling Kerry
and elitist who had achieved nothing in his life other than marrying
a rich woman. Where are these people today when it comes to John
McCain?
John McCain said on Wednesday "that he was uncertain how many
houses he and his wife, Cindy, own."
"I think -- I'll have my staff get to you," McCain said. "It's
condominiums where -- I'll have them get to you."
The answer, according to the group Progressive Accountability, is
an even 10 homes, ranches, condos, and lofts, together worth a combined
estimated $13,823,269.
John and Cindy McCain own a plethora of houses spread throughout
the United States, including: two beachfront condos in Coronado,
California, condo in La Jolla, California, a two-unit condominium
complex in Phoenix, Arizona, three ranch houses located outside of
Sedona, Arizona, a high-rise condo in Arlington, Virginia, a rental
loft, and, according to GQ, a loft they bought for their daughter,
Meghan.
The real elitist:
Fellow POW Won't Vote for McCain. "that is not the
finger I want next to that red button". This is a very moving article
written by a fellow POW on military.com. It gives deep insigt in
John McCain's real personality. Feel free to forward this artlicle
(link below) to you Republican neighbor, it is of vital importance
that he too knows what he will be voting for in November. If his
friend, fellow POW, fellow soldier, and fellow Naval Academy graduate
is not comfortable with John McCain's finger on the red button, should
we?
"He is a man I respect and admire in some ways. But there are
a number of reasons why I will not vote for him for President of
the United States...
...Was he tortured for 5 years? No. He was subjected to torture
and maltreatment during his first 2 years, from September of 1967
to September of 1969. After September of 1969 the Vietnamese stopped
the torture and gave us increased food and rudimentary health care.
Several hundred of us were captured much earlier. I got there April
20, 1965 so my bad treatment period lasted 4 1/2 years. ...But my
point here is that John allows the media to make him out to be THE
hero POW, which he knows is absolutely not true, to further his political
goals....
... I furthermore believe that having been a POW is no special qualification
for being President of the United States. The two jobs are not the
same, and POW experience is not, in my opinion, something I would
look for in a presidential candidate....
...I can verify that John has an infamous reputation for being a
hot head. He has a quick and explosive temper that many have experienced
first hand. Folks, quite honestly that is not the finger I want next
to that red button....
...It is also disappointing to see him take on and support Bush's
war in Iraq, even stating we might be there for another 100 years.
For me John represents the entrenched and bankrupt policies of Washington-as-usual.
...
...I'm disappointed to see John represent himself politically in
ways that are not accurate. He is not a moderate Republican. On some
issues he is a maverick. But his voting record is far to the right.
I fear for his nominations to our Supreme Court, and the consequent
continuing loss of individual freedoms, especially regarding moral
and religious issues. John is not a religious person, but he has
taken every opportunity to ally himself with some really obnoxious
and crazy fundamentalist ministers lately. I was also disappointed
to see him cozy up to Bush because I know he hates that man..."
McCain Now Lifting Solzhenitsyn (Remember:
Cindy Stole From Hershey's). At
a time where our kids in high school carefully avoid incorporating
phrases from anybody into their homework, without citing the source,
because every 10th grade teacher now has this nifty software to find
out where it came from, a presidential candidate is obviously ignorant
enough to steal from a Nobel Price laureate.
Does this mean McCain has read The Gulag Archipelago? Most likely
not. He's probably got that out of some trivia book. It's almost
as stupid as his formerly pill popping trust fund wife plagiarizing
recipes from Rachel Ray and Hershey's.
Gosh, these people obviously think the stupidity of the average
American voter is limitless.
Fact #6
How John Was Not in The "Cone of Silence" at
Saddleback. Senator
John McCain was not in a "cone of silence" on
Saturday night while Senator Barack Obama was being interviewed at
the Saddleback Church in California... The matter is of interest
because Mr. McCain, who followed Obama's hourlong appearance in the
forum, was asked virtually the same questions as Barack Obama. "He
was in a cone of motorcade" the pastor now says. A cone of motorcade
where everybody had blackberries. I am not suggesting McCain would
be able to use the "Internets" or even a Blackberry, but
there are surely people around him who can.
The issue, of course, isn't whether or not he cheated, but whether
he could have cheated. The cone of silence was meant to ensure that
the second candidate had no possible advantage over the first.
McCain spokeswoman Nicolle Wallace, told the NYT that McCain had
not heard the broadcast while in the motorcade, nor had he any of
the questions. That neatly accounts for just one way McCain might
have learned the content of the questions; the event was being broadcast
live, and presumably his aides have Blackberries. Coaching could
have taken place without McCain hearing anything directly from the
broadcast at all.
I think it is time to realize (again) that promises and assurances
out of the mouths ofMcCain/Bush Republicans are not worth crap. These
people will lie, cheat, and deceive anybody just to stay/get into
power. Even though he did great at Saddleback, probably better than
the "well prepared" McCain, I think Sen. Obama is well
advised to stay away from privately hosted forums, set up by neo-cons
and arch-conservatives. Have McCain come to a forum hosted by MoveOn,
we'll see how that goes.
Fact #7
Alzheimers? McCain & Mother Don't Recall Old Lawsuits. In
the 1980 lawsuit, filed shortly after John and Carol McCain divorced,
Roberta sued Carol to reclaim some personal property, including paintings,
a needlepoint screen and a pair of earrings. A settlement was reached
in 1981. Both, McCain's mother and he himself don' recall the lawsuit.
In the 1990 lawsuit, John and Carol McCain jointly sought $1 million
in punitive damages after a property management firm mistakenly threw
out some McCain family treasures from a garage the McCains shared
with an adjacent townhouse.McCain "had no knowledge of the suit: He
did not authorize the suit or participate in its filing."But
the lawyer who represented the McCains said she did indeed speak
to McCain and get his permission to sue on his behalf.
John's Foreign Policy Expertise: "Russia should be expelled
from the G-8". Besides his new gaffe that In The 21st Century
Nations Don't Invade Other Nations"
McCain now has called for Russia to be expelled from the Group of
Eight, the world's most powerful industrialized countries known as
the G-8.
This is very disturbing. It gives a clear picture about McCain's
foreign policy expertise. The facts. Russia
- is the largest country in the world
- has a GDP of $2.088 trillion
- has an oil production of 9.87 million bbl/day and a natural gas
production of 656.2 billion cu m/year.
- has a budget that has run surpluses since 2001 and ended 2007
with a surplus of about 3% of GDP.
- is Europe's main supplier of natural gas, oil, and uranium.
- is crucial to America in containing Iran's nuclear ambitions.
- imports foreign goods of $260.4 billion/year
- has very close ties with China, the USA's main creditor and supplier
of Wal-Mart junk.
- has 3,7 million active troops with the 2nd largest nuclear power
in the world (The Topol-M is one of the world's newest and most sophisticated
nuclear missiles. It is designed to be immune to any known or planned
ABM defense.)
The chance of successfully expelling Russia from the international
community is about as big as the chance of Woody Allen winning against
Mike Tyson in a boxing competition. Good luck, John.
Fact #9
John's Stand on Pro-Life: For it and Against
it. This piece provides
some insight into McCain's views on abortion:
John Fought GI Bill, and Tried to Take Credit
for it After it Passed. Bush
and McCain were the two most vocal opponents of the GI Bill (a benefits
program for veterans). Now they both are trying to take credit for
it. They are claiming that they always supported the generous benefits
— their main concern was just ensuring the benefits’ transferability:
"That has always been my primary concern with respect to the Webb bill.
… With the addition of the transferability provisions sought by Senators Graham,
Burr, myself and others to give service members the right to transfer earned
G.I. Bill benefits to spouses and children, we will have achieved in offering
vastly improved educational benefit." (J. McCain) Source
John falsely claims to have called for Rumsfeld's
resignation. He
should have, but he didn't.
During a debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif.,
aired on CNN, McCain said, 'I'm the only one that said that Rumsfeld had to go.'
Summary: On The Situation Room, CNN
senior political analyst Gloria Borger falsely claimed that "[Sen. John]
McCain has said over and over again, you know, 'I would have fired [former Secretary
of Defense] Donald Rumsfeld.' ... [H]e called for him to be fired while -- in
the Senate." In fact, McCain did not call for Rumsfeld to resign
or to be fired. He should have, but he didn't.
Fact #12
Antichrist Ad. A New Historic Low in Campaigning
(Even for Republican Standards). Christian radio and political blogs and in widely circulated
e-mail messages that accuse Obama of being the Antichrist. John jumps
the bandwagon.
McCain aides say the spot was meant
to be a "creative" and "humorous" way of poking
fun at Obama's popularity by painting him as a self-appointed messiah.
Fact is if you got nothing to say, have no solutions, don't know
about the problems we face and don't care about them either, that's
when your resort to middle school level crap like this in a political
campaign. How about some real answers, John?
Fact #13
DHL: McCain Campaign Helps Foreign Owned
Company Kill US-Jobs. DHL?
That's the corporation with the yellow trucks, owned by German Postal
Service has been having a hard time to compete against domestic companies
like UPS and FedEx. Good think they have John McCain. He and his
campaign manager has Rick Davis played a vital role in this deal:
DHL's wants to put its packages aboard the planes of a rival, UPS,
a deal brokered by our maverick from Arizona. If that deal is to
go through (with UPS flying its cargo out of Louisville, Kentucky)
DHL's shipping hub in Wilmington, Ohio would be effectively closed,
eliminating up to 10,000 jobs.
What's really strange about all this is that the even though this
has been known for a long time the "Obama- friendly" mainstream
media have so far totally refused to cover this.
Fact #14
John About Biz Taxes: Straight Talk out of
the Rear-End."America
has the second highest business tax rate in the entire world. It
is any wonder that jobs are moving overseas when we are taxing them
out of the country? Unfortunately Senator Obama's plans would raise
taxes on businesses even more. He has promised tax increases on income,
tax increases on investment, tax increases on small businesses. This
is exactly the wrong strategy. Raising taxes in a bad economy is
about the worst thing you could do because it will kill even more
jobs when what we need are policies that create jobs." (John
8.6.).
OK, let's look at that. Not sure what John means by "business
tax". The measure of taxable profits varies from country to
country, but let's assume it was all the same.
Did he talk about Fed. Corporate Taxation? In the United States,
the top federal corporate rate for income over $18.3 million is 35%
but can be as low as 15% for income under $50,000. That's pretty
good, in Germany for instance there is a 42% taxation on corporate
income, and that kicks in around $ 200k pa, and Germany isn't even
the worst. England is about the same than the US, but there you've
got insane estate taxes. Many a young peer has been taxed out of
his castle over there.
What he means is probably Corporate shareholder taxation for multi-miliionaires
and trust-fund babies like his wife, and again, the USA is on the
lower end of taxation compared to most European countries like Sweden.
Norway, and Germany. In some of these countries even double taxation
exists, on both, corporate profits and dividends.
On top of all that most European countries have excruciatingly
high employer parts on Social Sec. and governmental unemployment
insurance. While the USA has 7.5% Soc. Sec. and 1.45% Medicate tax
(based on an employee's gross salary) as employer part, Germany has
6.5% unemployment insurance and 19.5% Social Security, plus an additional
1.7% Disability Insurance. AND THESE ARE ONLY THE EMPLOYER PARTS
AND DON'T EVEN INCLUDE MEDICARE and mandatory health insurance.
No matter how you look at it, the USA is by no means a high tax
country, especially not for the rich and super rich. Jobs are not
moving overseas because taxes are to high, they are moving overseas
because people in India and China work for 5 bucks, or less, a day,
and there are no environmental and labor laws in these countries.
On top of that, most US companies don't even pay federal taxes:
Weird money trail into McCain's pockets. Harry
Sargeant III, a former naval officer and the owner of an oil-trading
company that recently inked defense contracts potentially worth more
than $1 billion has raised (with help from friends in the Middle
East and the former chief of the CIA's bin Laden unit -- who now
serves as a consultant to his company) more than $100,000 from a
collection of ordinary people, several of whom professed little interest
in the outcome of the election.
The strangest thing is, some of them done't even like him and won't
vote for him.
Fact #16
The Maverick of Big Oil. Exxon reports a new record in the history
of corporatedom. Barack Obama suggests to provide every American with
a $1000 tax rebate to help pay for rising prices, paid for by levying
an excess profits tax on the oil companies. What does the maverick
battler of big oil say? No way. McCain angrily dismisses the idea,
saying that it would lead the oil companies to reduce their drilling
in the US -- but this is based upon what might generously be called
a big lie. (Robert L. Borosage: The Audacity of Contempt)
McCain Defended Opposition Of Federal MLK Holiday By Saying He Supported

Canada has universal (socialized) health care and the Canadian State
will be debt free in 7 years. The US Federal Government has raked
up a 9 Trillion $ debt, most of it in the past 8 years. If the US
Federal Government bails out investment banks like Bear Streans,
isn't that socializing corporate losses.
John McCain, if we can socialize corporate losses, why can't we
socialize health care? On top of this, you have socialized health
care for yourself.

John Uses F-Word on Cornyn (R, TX). Fox News
Not Sure if it was a Verb or a Gerund?
Straight Talk Express Takes Detours During
Trips to Iowa. McCain
has argued that government support for ethanol actually raises gasoline
prices. He has claimed ethanol does nothing to make the U.S. more
energy independent. He has even questioned the science behind making
fuel from corn - contending that ethanol provides less energy than
the fossil fuels consumed to produce it.
In a flip-flop so absurd it'll be a wonder if it doesn't get lampooned
by late-night comedians - not to mention opponents' negative ads
- McCain is now proclaiming himself a "strong" ethanol
supporter.
"I support ethanol and I think it is a vital, a vital alternative
energy source not only because of our dependency on foreign oil but
its greenhouse gas reduction effects," he said in an August
speech in Grinnell, Iowa, as reported by the Associated Press.
Temper. "If McCain is truly a serious contender for the presidency,
it is time the rest of the nation learned about the John McCain we

he has the temperament, and the political approach and skills, we want
in the next president of the United States." (Arizona Republic,

Fact #21
John uses the F-word more frequently than a f*ing rapper:
Gen. Petraeus makes surge work before it
was announced and before he was even in Iraq. A miracle a la McCain:
Kate Couric: Senator McCain, Senator Obama says, while the increased
number of US troops contributed to increased security in Iraq, he
also credits the Sunni awakening and the Shiite government going
after militias. And says that there might have been improved security
even without the surge. What's your response to that?
McCain: I don't know how you respond to something that is as-- such
a false depiction of what actually happened. Colonel McFarlane [phonetic]
was contacted by one of the major Sunni sheiks. Because of the surge
we were able to go out and protect that sheik and others. And it
began the Anbar awakening. I mean, that's just a matter of history.
Thanks to General Petraeus, our leadership, and the sacrifice of
brave young Americans. I mean, to deny that their sacrifice didn't
make possible the success of the surge in Iraq, I think, does a great
disservice to young men and women who are serving and have sacrificed.
( The surge wasn't even announced until a few months after the Anbar
Awakening. That would be almost four months before the President
even announced the surge. Petraeus wasn't even in Iraq yet.)

Following Iran’s missile tests this week, McCain slammed Obama’s
position on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, declaring, “This is
the same organization that I voted to condemn as a terrorist organization
when an amendment was on the floor of the United States Senate. Senator
Obama refused to vote.”
CNN’s Political Ticker notes the problem:
McCain also missed that vote on the Kyl-Lieberman amendment on September
26, 2007. Records show that Obama was in New Hampshire and McCain
was in New York instead of being in the Senate chamber for the vote
in question.
Fact #25
Non-existing Country of Czechoslovakia. During
a July 14th Town Hall meeting in Arizona, John referred to the country
of "Czechoslovakia",
which has not existed since it was divided into the Czech Republic & Slovakia
back in 1993. This alone would not be a big deal, if he hadn't made
a reference to the non-existent country again just two days later
during a Town Hall meeting in neighboring New Mexico.

Fact #28
John McCain refers to Russia's Vladimir Putin as "president" of
Germany.
We all know that Germany has a chancelor.
Fact #29
The McCain Campaign/Freddy Mac involvement is deeper than we initially
thought.
Freddie Mac had previously paid an advocacy group run by Davis,
called the Homeownership Alliance, $30,000 a month until the end
of 2005, when that group was dissolved. That relationship was the
subject of a New York Times story Monday, which drew angry denunciations
from the McCain campaign. McCain and his aides have vehemently objected
to suggestions that Davis has ties to Freddie Mac—an especially sensitive
issue given that the Republican presidential candidate has blamed "the
lobbyists, politicians and bureaucrats" for the mortgage crisis
that recently prompted the Bush administration to take over both
Freddie Mac and its companion, Fannie Mae, and put them under federal
conservatorship.
McCain on Sunday 09/21/08 on 60Minutes responded to a question about
Mr. Davis's role in the advocacy group through 2005 by saying that
his campaign manager "has had nothing to do with it since, and
I'll be glad to have his record examined by anybody who wants to
look at it." Despite McCain's denial the NYT on 09/23/08 reported
this:
As it looks now Davis got money from Freddie Mac until August 2008
for doing what?
Fact #30
McCain's Role in the Wall Street Crash
It is stomach-turning. In an unprecedented flip flop sequence,
following the meltdown on Wall Street, Senator John McCain has suddenly
changed the positions he has fiercely defended for over 3 decades.
He now calls for more regulation and government oversight over financial
institutions, saying "Wall Street Fat Cats" are responsible
for the disaster. On top he accuses the Bush Administration to have
failed:
"I say the Bush administration has failed," McCain said
on "60 Minutes" after agreeing that he placed "a great
deal" of responsibility on the President for the financial meltdown."
McCain even disgraced himself to the point where he started accusing
Senator Barack Obama to be partially responsible for the economic
problem. (1)
Let's get the story straight: John McCain is a part of the problem,
a major part. Even though he is right about the greedy fat cats and
the fact that the Bush Administration has failed, he downplays his
own role in the game, seeking to distance himself from Bush and the
economy.
The facts:
Fact #1: John McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis was paid more
than $30,000 a month (total almost 2 Million) for five years as president
of an advocacy group set up by the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac to defend them against stricter regulations. (2) As we
found out on 09/24/08 he even got paid until August 08 (see Fact
#29 above).
Fact #2: Wall Street fat cats are McCain's biggest donors. McCain's
top fundraiser is John Tain, chief executive of Merryl Lynch, who
brought in more than $500,000 for McCain. McCain's largest campaign
donors were Merryl Lynch employees and their families, who gave $298,413.
Fact #3: McCain already was instrumental of the U.S. Savings and
Loan crisis of the 1980s and 1990s. As part of the Keating Five he
was accused of improperly aiding Charles H. Keating, Jr., chairman
of the failed Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was the
target of an investigation by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB).
(3)
Fact # 4: One of McCain's top advisors, Phil Gramm, who recently
called America a "nation of whiners", led the effort for
the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act that paved the way for the economic
collapses of today. He could become treasury Secretary in a McCain
Administration. Gramm was one of five co-sponsors of the Commodity
Futures Modernization Act of 2000. One provision of the bill was
referred to as the "Enron loophole" because the House Agriculture
Committee drafted it and it was later applied to Enron. At the time,
Gramm's wife was previously on Enron's board of directors. Gramm
also spearheaded efforts to pass banking reform laws, including the
landmark Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act in 1999, which served to reduce government
regulations in existence since the Great Depression separating banking,
insurance and brokerage activities. McCain supported the Act in Congress.
This same legislation may was pivotal in encouraging the corporate
practices that led to the current mortgage crisis.(4)
Fact# 5: McCain called himself a deregulator in the past and flip-flops
at a blazing speed. Watch this:
John McCain, in an interview with a Spanish outlet, has made a
series of bizarre responses to a question regarding that country's
prime minister.
"Would you be willing to meet with the head of our government,
Mr. Zapatero?" the questioner asked, in an exchange now being
reported by several Spanish outlets.
McCain proceeded to launch into what appeared to be a boilerplate
declaration about Mexico and Latin America -- but not Spain -- pressing
the need to stand up to world leaders who want to harm America.
McCain: Make Health Care System More Like Banking System
"Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous
nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking,
would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by
the worst excesses of state-based regulation."Link (pdf)
The McCain-Bush Cowboy Economy. Mavericks of Chaos
We are living in a time where rock-solid investment firms fall
like ripe fruit, where insurance giants perish in a day, where people's
property values melt away like snow in the Spring sun, and the Federal
Government tries to avoid a worldwide depression by throwing hundreds
of Billions of taxpayer dollars into the mix.
Only a year ago President Bush vetoed a bi-patisan child healthcare
bill (1), which was drafted to provide basic health care for American
children, whose parents could not afford insurance, but earned too
much to apply for welfare. The born-again christian Bush's main arguments
against the 35 billion dollar measure was that it would lead to "socialized
healthcare" and that the USA could not afford it.
In the past month the same Administration has intervened to rescue
two mortgage giants, an insurance company, and several large investment
banks, spending nearly half a Trillion of taxpayer money. Were these
bail-outs necessary, after conservatives have griped for decades
at Jimmy Carter, who has bailed out Chrysler in the 70-ies? They
probably were necessary in the cases of Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac.
Ships this big cause unpredictable turbulence when they go down.
But socializing losses bears risks because it encourages future investors
to proceed on the path taken.
However, the fact that the Bush administration is now socializing
the investment banking industry is ironic. On one hand, an administration
which has promised less government and more freedom has turned this
country into a high security state with an omnipresent big brother
government, watching day and night over its citizen's moves, over
their travel habits, emails, and telephone conversations.
On the other hand huge investment firms, international banks, and
giant insurance companies operate in a legal vacuum, unaffected by
laws, regulations, and governmental oversight. Corporate executives
transfer amounts the size of a small nation's yearly federal budget
around the globe with the click of a mouse. A hand full of oil future
traders can drive large nations into recession. International business
tycoons make Billions in Dallas, reside in Geneva, and pay taxes
on the Cayman Islands. When the party comes to an end the American
taxpayer has to pick up the tab. Pocket the gains, socialize the
losses!
How could all this happen? The answer is "deregulation" engineered
by Bush, Cheney & McCain. The core of the neocon economic doctrine
was simple: if we only allow big corporations to operate without
any legal restrictions and with no governmental oversight, an economic
boost will somehow transpire, leading to more growth and new jobs.
Experts have long warned against this form of cowboy economy. Many
of them were ignored, some were were ridiculed. Since this week's
Wall Street crash it is official: The experts were right. Bush's
economic policy is as broken as his Middle East policy, his education
policy, his foreign policy, and his disaster management.
What is John McCain's stand? As always, it is hard to tell. McCain
is well known for having several different opinions on one and the
same issue.
In the past McCain used to call himself a "deregulator",
a man who fights against governmental restrictions in order to provide
international corporations with more freedom. His voting record proves
that he has played a major role in creating the current crisis. In
2002 McCain introduced a law to restrict governmental oversight for
online trading. In 1999 he massively supported the Gramm-Leach-Billey-Act,
a law to do away with old restrictions for insurances, to allow companies
like AIG to participate in investment deals (2). It were such deals
which finally lead to the fall of the insurance giant.
In the 90-ies John McCain was one of only five Senators who opposed
a new telecommunications law, arguing it would restrict market forces.
On one side he voted for the total surveillance of innocent American
citizens, on the other hand he opposed even the most basic oversight-laws
for financial institutions.
Not too long ago, McCain touted that the US economy was fundamentally
strong (3), and warned against government regulations. Two days ago,
he made a sudden 180 degree turn, blaming the banking crisis on corruption
and on the greed of some Wall-Street fat-cats. He is right. These
are probably the same fat cats who are his main campaign contributors.
John McCain now asks for more governmental oversight, while his advisor
Douglas Holtz-Eakin wants to introduce new legal initiatives to curb
deregulation (4). This is one fast flip-flop, even for McCain standards.
Last week the life long Republican and former Federal Reserve Chairman
Alan Greenspan clearly opposed the McCain tax cuts, identifiying
them as unaffordable (5). McCain's own economic advisor, former H&P
CEO Carly Fiorina publicly voiced doubts about the self-decalrfed
Maverick's ability to even lead a small corporation (6). Only John
McCain himself seems to have confidence in his abilities: "If
we only elect McCain/Palin all problems will go away quickly".
Truth is, John McCain is part of the problem, his actions contributed
directly to to the current situation.
Fact is, the Bush Administration had raked up more Federal debt
in eight years than all past US Presidents together, while the country's
infrastructure, education, health care system, social security system,
medicare and people's home values have been deteriorating at a fast
pace. The devastating results of Bush's misrule will stifle the ability
of future presidents to fiscally counteract recessions for a long
time. Under these circumstances McCain's opposition for higher taxes
and his promises for more post-election tax cuts appear to be as
crooked as Dick Cheney's smile.
Former Republican NYC Mayor Koch Endorses Obama - Scared of Palin
Obviously, Democrats are not the only ones who are scared about
McCain's VP pick. Ever since we learned about Plain's librarian episode,
many of us have been thinking about an old idiom, something the
German poet Heinrich Heine had written in 1821:
"Wherever they burn books, they will also, in the end, burn
people."
Sadly, Heine's dark prophecy fulfilled itself in his own country,
when in 1933 the conservative veteran and self-declared maverick
Adolf Hitler rose into power, mainly because he promised to lead
the devastated country out of a crisis, that was self-inflicted by
Germany's war-mongering government in 1914, when WWI was started.
One of Hitler's first actions was to get rid of "unfit" literature
in public libraries. Often those books were burned in big piles on
the streets of Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich. Six years later, after
introducing new laws quite similar to Bush's Patriot Act and Military
Detention Act, the nazis fired up the furnaces of the concentration
camps, to get rid of those people who they defined as enemies of
the state.
Former New York Mayor Ed Koch, who endorsed and worked for George
W. Bush in 2004, is now endorsing Obama for the very same reasons:
McCain Pays Over 5 Grand for Make-Up Done by Brittney
Spears' Team
John McCain has reportedly paid
more than $5,500 to Tifanie White, the makeup artist who works on "American
Idol" and for Britney Spears for
similar cosmetic services. It is yet another incident of a politician
-- regardless of ideological stripe -- coughing up a lot of money
for the sake of good looks.
Earlier this cycle, one may recall, former Sen. John Edwards was
subjected to days of ridicule over the fact that he had made two
separate payments of $400 for two haircuts. The Republican National
Committee put together a document calling Edwards a "pricey
haircut enthusiast" and Rush Limbaug asked about Edwards if
we'd soon have a "Female President". Where are they now?
Fact # 36
"The Debate is Over and We Won"
The McCain Campaign has accidentally released a banner on their
page, declaring "McCain Wins Debate!" even before (!) the
candidate had announced he was planning to debate.
The banner was made public in the morning hours of September 26,
2008, and gives insight into the the internal chaos McCain's Campaign
must be facing. The debate is scheduled to take place in the evening
on September 26, and it took almost until noon for McCain to commit,
after he has touted for two days he wouldn't be attending if the
$ 700 Billion bail-out deal wasn't passed.
One questions still remains:
Did McCain honestly think he could weasel his and Palin's way out
of a public debate with Barack Obama? Palin vs. Biden is scheduled
for next week, and the MCain Campaign attempted to cancel this debate
too.
Fact #37
MCCAIN'S GAMBLING PROBLEM
John McCain does not only want to gamble with your Social Security,
he is also a well known gambler at the Craps table. He has been known
to play craps on impulse for 14 hours at a stretch.
A highly disturbing
article was published in the NYT on 09//27/08, highlighting McCain's
affinity to gambling and the gambling industry as well as his connections
to criminal lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The gambling industry does not
only fund McCain's campaign, some of his advisors have as well ties
to the gambling industry.
Questions: Why is this problem being ignored by the religious right?
Does McCain have a record of wins and losses? If so, should these
be shared with the public? McCain has said craps is addictive. Is
he craps addict? Has his gambling led to any questionable conflicts
of interest?
Gambling has tax implications. According to IRS Publication 17, "Your
Federal Income Tax", 2007 edition, page 89 "Gambling Winnings.
You must include your gambling winnings in income on Form 1040, line
21. If you itemize your deductions on Schedule A (Form 1040), you
can deduct gambling losses you had during the year, but only up to
the amount of your winnings." In other words, you can't subtract
your losses from your winnings and just not report. You have to report
the winnings, and then claim the losses.
But McCain's tax returns say nothing about gambling winnings or
losses.
Senator John McCain's Record on Troop and Veterans' Issues
Voting Against Veterans. The master list is below.
In its most recent legislative
ratings, the non-partisan Disabled American Veterans gave Sen. McCain
a 20 percent rating for his voting record on veterans' issues. Similarly,
the non-partisan Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America gave
McCain a "D" grade for his poor voting record on veterans'
issues, including McCain's votes against additional body armor for
troops in combat and additional funding for PTSD and TBI screening
and treatment.
McCain Voted Against Increased Funding for Veterans' Health Care.
Although McCain told voters at a campaign rally that improving veterans'
health care was his top domestic priority, he voted against increasing
funding for veterans' health care in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. (Greenville

McCain Voted Against $44.3 Billion for Veterans Programs. McCain
was one of five senators to vote against a bill providing $44.3 billion
for the Department of Veterans Affairs, plus funding for other federal
agencies. (H.R. 2684, Vote 328, 10/15/99)
McCain Voted Against $47 Billion for the Department of Veterans

that provided $47 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
(H.R. 4635, Vote 272, 10/12/00)
McCain Voted Against $51 Billion in Veterans Funding. McCain was
one of five senators to vote against the bill and seven to vote against
the conference report that provided $51.1 billion for the Department
of Veterans Affairs, as well as funding for the federal housing,
environmental and emergency management agencies and NASA. (H.R. 2620,
Vote 334, 11/8/01; Vote 269, 8/2/01)
McCain Voted Against $122.7 Billion for Department of Veterans Affairs.
McCain voted against an appropriations bill that included $122.7
billion in fiscal 2004 for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Housing
and Urban Development and other related agencies. (H.R. 2861, Vote
449, 11/12/03)
McCain Opposed $500 Million for Counseling Services for Veterans
with Mental Disorders. McCain voted against an amendment to appropriate
$500 million annually from 2006-2010 for counseling, mental health
and rehabilitation services for veterans diagnosed with mental illness,
posttraumatic stress disorder or substance abuse. (S. 2020, S.Amdt.
2634, Vote 343, 11/17/05)
McCain opposed an Assured Funding Stream for Veterans' Health Care.
McCain opposed providing an assured funding stream for veterans'
health care, taking into account annual changes in veterans' population
and inflation. (S.Amdt. 3141 to S.C.R. 83, Vote 63, 3/16/06)
McCain Voted Against Adding More Than $400 Million for Veterans'
Care. McCain was one of 13 Republicans to vote against providing
an additional $430 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs
for outpatient care and treatment for veterans. (S.Amdt. 3642 to
H.R. 4939, Vote 98, 4/26/06)
McCain Supported Outsourcing VA Jobs. McCain opposed an amendment
that would have prevented the Department of Veterans Affairs from
outsourcing jobs, many held by blue-collar veterans, without first
giving the workers a chance to compete. (S.Amdt. 2673 to H.R. 2642,
Vote 315, 9/6/07)
McCain Opposed the 21st Century GI Bill Because It Was Too Generous.
McCain did not vote on the GI Bill that will provide better educational
opportunities to veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, paying
full tuition at in-state schools and living expenses for those who
have served at least three years since the 9/11 attacks. McCain said
he opposes the bill because he thinks the generous benefits would "encourage
more people to leave the military." (S.Amdt. 4803 to H.R. 2642,
Vote 137, 5/22/08; Chattanooga Times Free Press, 6/2/08; Boston Globe,
5/23/08; ABCNews.com, 5/26/08)
Disabled American Veterans Legislative Director Said That McCain's
Proposal Would Increase Costs For Veterans Because His Plan Relies
On Private Hospitals Which Are More Expensive and Which Could Also
Lead To Further Rationing Of Care. "To help veterans who live
far from VA hospitals or need specialized care the VA can't provide,
McCain proposed giving low-income veterans and those who incurred
injury during their service a card they could use at private hospitals.
The proposal is not an attempt to privatize the VA, as critics have
alleged, but rather, an effort to improve care and access to it,
he said. Joe Violanti, legislative director of the Disabled American
Veterans, a nonpartisan organization, said the proposal would increase
costs because private hospitals are more expensive. The increased
cost could lead to further rationing of care, he said." (Las
Vegas Sun, 8/10/08)
McCain co-sponsored the Use of Force Authorization. McCain supported
the bill that gave President George W. Bush the green light--and
a blank check--for going to war with Iraq. (SJ Res 46, 10/3/02)
McCain Opposed Increasing Spending on TRICARE and Giving Greater
Access to National Guard and Reservists. Although his campaign website
devotes a large section to veterans issues, including expanding benefits
for reservists and members of the National Guard, McCain voted against
increasing spending on the TRICARE program by $20.3 billion over
10 years to give members of the National Guard and Reserves and their
families greater access to the health care program. The increase
would be offset by a reduction in tax cuts for the wealthy. (S.Amdt.
324 to S.C.R. 23, Vote 81, 3/25/03)
McCain voted against holding Bush accountable for his actions in
the war. McCain opposed the creation of an independent commission
to investigate war profiteering and the development and use of intelligence
leading up to the war in Iraq. (S.Amdt. 1275 to H.R. 2658, Vote 284,
7/16/03)
McCain voted Against Establishing a $1 Billion Trust Fund for Military
Health Facilities. McCain voted against establishing a $1 billion
trust fund to improve military health facilities by refusing to repeal
tax cuts for those making more than $1 million a year. (S.Amdt. 2735
to S.Amdt. 2707 to H.R. 4297, Vote 7, 2/2/06)
Senator McCain opposed efforts to end the overextension of the military--a
policy that is having a devastating impact on our troops. McCain
voted against requiring mandatory minimum downtime between tours
of duty for troops serving in Iraq. (S.Amdt.. 2909 to S.Amdt. 2011
to HR 1585, Vote 341, 9/19/07; S.Amdt. 2012 to S.Amdt. 2011 to HR
1585, Vote 241, 7/11/07)
McCain announced his willingness to keep U.S. troops in Iraq for
decades--a statement sure to inflame Iraqis and endanger American
troops. McCain: "Make it a hundred" years in Iraq and "that
would be fine with me." (Derry, New Hampshire Town Hall meeting,
1/3/08)
Despite his recent calls against torture, McCain voted against a
ban on waterboarding--a form of torture--in a move that could eventually
endanger American troops. According to ThinkProgress, "the Senate
brought the Intelligence Authorization Bill to the floor, which contained
a provision from Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) establishing one interrogation
standard across the government. The bill requires the intelligence
community to abide by the same standards as articulated in the Army
Field Manual and bans waterboarding." McCain
voted against the bill. (H.R. 2082, Vote 22, 2/13/08)
McCain Also Supported Outsourcing at Walter Reed. McCain opposed
an amendment to prevent the outsourcing of 350 federal employee jobs
at Walter Reed Army Medical Center--outsourcing that contributed
to the scandalous treatment of veterans at Walter Reed that McCain
called a "disgrace." (S.Amdt. 4895 to H.R. 5631, Vote 234,
9/6/06; Speech to VFW in Kansas City, Mo., 4/4/08)
Fact # 39
Maverick or Mudsinger? In the early days of October
2008 the McCain campaign seems to know they can't win on issues.
They have no solutions other than the well known, failed Bush policies,
so they resort to what they do best: mudslinging.
Rignt now, a desperate John McCain and his allies are "readying
a newly aggressive assault on Sen. Barack Obama's character, believing
that to win in November they must shift the conversation back to
questions about the Democrat's judgment, honesty and personal associations...
We're going to get a little tougher," a senior Republican operative
said
The question is: Can attacking your opponent solve the cirisi
this country is in right now? Probably not. It would be helpful if
John McCain and his runing mate Sarah Palin would come up with answers
and a plan instead of wasting time hurling dirt.
Fact # 40
Who is buddies up with radicals?
While the McCain campaign is hammering Barack Obama for his alleged
ties to Mr. Ayers, who was a domestic radical in the 60ies when Obama
was 8 years old, and who now happens to live in Obama's neighborhood,
Sen. John McCain for many years served on the board of a far-right
conservative organization that had supplied arms and funds to paramilitary
organizations in Latin America. McCain's involvement in the U.S.
Council for World Freedom, which extended from 1981 through, possibly,
1986 is significant -- not merely because it ties him to unsavory
characters but because it firmly associates him with a foreign policy
that was, at the time and still, controversial.
McCain-Palin Have Sunk Into "Race-Baiting And Xenophobia"
The New York Times harshly criticized the McCain-Palin campaign
in an editorial Wednesday:
It is a sorry fact of American political life that campaigns get
ugly, often in their final weeks. But Senator John McCain and Gov.
Sarah Palin have been running one of the most appalling campaigns
we can remember.
John McCain made an overnight change in the homeowner
bailout he proposed at Tuesday’s presidential debate (10/07/08),
making it more generous to financial institutions and more costly
for taxpayers.
Writing for the Daily Beast, Michael Kinsley relays a disturbing
story about John McCain from Jeff Dearth, former publisher of the
New Republic, when Dearth and McCain attended a magazine industry
conference at a casino hotel in Puerto Rico in 2005:
The Red Meat of Hate. McCain Faces Backlash Over Rabid Crowds
John McCain was booed by his own supporters during a rally on Friday
after he described Barack Obama as a "decent person and a person
that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States."
McCain was responding to a town hall attendee who claimed he was
concerned about raising a child under a president who "cohorts
with domestic terrorists such as [Bill] Ayers." Despite the
fact that McCain and his campaign have repeatedly used Ayers to hammer
Obama in recent days, the Arizona Senator tried to calm the man.
"[Senator Obama] is a decent person and a person that you do
not have to be scared about as President of the United States," he
said, before adding: "If I didn't think I would be one heck
of a better president I wouldn't be running."
The crowd groaned with disapproval.
Later, McCain was again pressed about Obama's "other-ness" and
again he refused to play ball. "I don't trust Obama," a
woman said. "I have read about him. He's an Arab."
"No, ma'am," McCain said several times, shaking his head
in disagreement. "He's a decent, family man, [a] citizen that
I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues and
that's what this campaign is all about."
Economists For McCain' Trash McCain's New Mortgage Plan
Many of the professional economists who formally endorsed John McCain's
economic plan are expressing bewilderment with his most recent proposal
to rectify the home mortgage crisis.
In interviews with the Huffington Post, roughly a dozen of McCain's
economist supporters said they disagreed with the Senator's recent
proposal -- for the government to buy distressed mortgages at face
value from banks and renegotiate them with homeowners. Several viewed
it as a gimmick, driven mostly by political circumstance. Only one
pro-McCain economist spoke up in favor of the plan.
Does John McCain "pal around with terrorists?" Certainly
McCain's continuing "association" and
relationship with the convicted Watergate burglar and domestic terrorist
G. Gordon Liddy might suggest that is the case, if we are to apply
the standards drawn by the McCain campaign.
In 1998, Liddy gave a fundraiser in his Scottsdale, Arizona home
for McCain's senatorial re-election campaign -- the two posed for
photographs together; and as recently as May, 2007, as a presidential
candidate, McCain was a guest on Liddy's syndicated radio show. Inexplicably,
McCain heaped praise on his host's values. During the segment, McCain
said he was "proud" of Liddy, and praised Liddy's "adherence
to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.
Unbelievable! McCain Transition Chief Aided Saddam In Lobbying
Effort
The Washington lobbyist John McCain has named to head his presidential
transition team aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator
Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime.
The two lobbyists who McCain aide William Timmons worked closely
with over a five year period on the lobbying campaign later either
pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that
they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein's government.
During the same period beginning in 1992, Timmons worked closely
with the two lobbyists, Samir Vincent and Tongsun Park, on a previously
unreported prospective deal with the Iraqis in which they hoped to
be awarded a contract to purchase and resell Iraqi oil. Timmons,
Vincent, and Park stood to share at least $45 million if the business
deal went through.
One of Hollywood's few Republicans has switched his vote. Dennis
Hopper, 72, told reporters in France that he's praying for an Obama
victory, despite decades as a Bush supporter.
"I voted for Bush, father and son, but this time I'll vote
for Obama," he told journalists at the opening of a show on
his life and work.
"I was the first person in my family to have been Republican," he
added. "For most of my life I wasn't on the left."
"I pray God, Barack Obama is elected," he said, calling
the current administration's many "lies."

of these photos, and if they were "photoshopped". They are not, they
are official REUTERS news agencies photos from the 3rd debate)
Fact # 53
Top McCain Donor Accused of War-Profiteering
The Democratic chairman of a House investigative committee presented
documents to the Pentagon on Thursday (10/16/08) charging that a
top Republican fund-raiser, Harry Sargeant III, made tens of millions
of dollars in profits over the last four years because his contracting
company vastly overcharged for deliveries of fuel to American air
bases in
McCain Uses Same Robocall Firm that Smeared him in 2000 to Make
Hate Calls Against Obama
In his efforts to attack Barack Obama, John McCain appears to have
turned to the same political consulting firm that was responsible
for spreading vicious smears about the Senator during the 2000 South
Carolina GOP primary.
NYT reporter Lawrence Altman, a medical doctor himself, finds that "serious
gaps remain in the public's knowledge about the health of the presidential
and vice-presidential nominees," which is "a striking departure
from recent campaigns, in which many candidates and their doctors
were more forthcoming." The findings are in particular disturbing
because of McCain's VP pick. If something should happen to John McCain
during a possible first term as President -which God forbid- a totally
incompetent, unprepared woman, with only 19 months experience in
State politics, would automatically become President of the USA,
during a time that can be ssen as the most difficult and challenging
period since WWII.
Accepting money from foreign powers is illegal for US presidential
candidates. The McCain campaign accused Obama earlier this month
of not doing enough to screen for illegal contributors and asked
U.S. election officials to investigate.
Fact # 57
McCain Spokesman Wusses out on CNN
Michael Goldfarb, who's clearly better off blogging about ABBA and
criticizing people for playing Dungeons and Dragons, just pooped
his pants on national television. The McCain campaign is making a
last ditch effort to make SCARY MUSLIM NOISES at Barack Obama, and
since Goldfarb doesn't have any sort of reputation worth salvaging,
it figures that he'd be doing duty here.
But CNN's Rick Sanchez calls Goldfarb out for the hypocrisy of hyping
a sinister connection between Obama and a guy that McCain funneled
hundreds of thousands of dollars to, and from there, Goldfarb goes
right off the rails, refusing to answer Sanchez's questions with
anything other than intimations.
Fact # 58
An 'Idiot Wind'
WITH THE presidential campaign clock ticking down, Sen. John McCain
has suddenly discovered a new boogeyman to link to Sen. Barack Obama:
a sometimes controversial but widely respected Middle East scholar
named Rashid Khalidi. In the past couple of days, Mr. McCain and
his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, have likened Mr. Khalidi, the
director of a Middle East institute at Columbia University, to neo-Nazis;
called him "a PLO spokesman"; and suggested that the Los
Angeles Times is hiding something sinister by refusing to release
a videotape of a 2003 dinner in honor of Mr. Khalidi at which Mr.
Obama spoke.
